Ocean Advocacy
Even though I now call Nashville home, I’m a born & raised Floridian and that will always be a huge part of who I am! That’s why taking care of our oceans is so important to me!
There are plenty of amazing organizations focused on ocean conservation and ocean pollution issues that are dedicated to raising awareness and fighting to protect our oceans. Just because you don’t live somewhere close to the sea doesn’t mean you can’t lend a hand through donations & awareness.
Here’s a look at some of my favorite Ocean Conservation Organizations. While you’re browsing through all their work I encourage you donate if possible or volunteer to help them out!
Ocean Conservancy
Ocean Conservancy was founded in 1972 to protect the ocean from today’s greatest global challenges. Since then, they have become one of the leading advocacy groups working for the protection of marine habitats.
They create evidence-based solutions for a healthy ocean and the wildlife communities that depend on it, and work to restore sustainable fisheries and reduce the human impact on ocean ecosystems. They educate the public and advocate for the policy changes. In order to achieve this, they conduct several programs such as the International Coastal Cleanup Program that gathered millions of volunteers to clean beaches worldwide in the past 30 years.
OCEANA
Plastics are one of the greatest threats facing our oceans today. The equivalent of roughly two garbage trucks full of plastic are dumped into the oceans every minute — an estimated 33 billion pounds of plastic a year!
If nothing changes soon, the amount of plastic entering the ocean is projected to triple by 2040! Eighteen years…that’s it. If you had a child today, the oceans your child will grow up enjoying would be filled with almost 100 billion pounds of plastic each year by the time they graduate high school. That’s insane — not to mention, deadly!

Greenpeace International
Greenpeace International is an environmental NGO that conducts several programs in ocean conservation & marine environment, along with other programs focused on Renewable Energy Revolution, Fires, Food, Forests, Climate, Consumption, Health & Peace — just to name a few.
Greenpeace International works with worldwide networks to pressure big corporations to reduce their plastic usage, advocate against unsustainable industrial fishing practices, ocean acidification, excessive drilling for oil, and climate change.
